I saw the “The First Major Motion Picture Made For The Internet” on YouTube last night and enjoyed it very much. I guess it can be categorized as a black comedy. The style was Quentinoesque, in that you follow a bunch of characters and they weave into each others lives through the plot and subplots of the movie. And though it did have a noir pulp feel, this movies was of a much lighter tone.
I don’t want to give anything away so I’ll let the synopsis on the YouTube page do the talking:
GIRL WALKS INTO A BAR connects a group of apparent strangers over one night across ten bars throughout Los Angeles. Zachary Quinto stars as a dentist who teams up with a feisty would-be assassin (Carla Gugino) to put the final touches on the plan to kill his wife. Once he makes a play for the assassin’s payment, he unknowingly sets off a chain of events that fuels a crosstown journey through the many lounges, bars, strip clubs and the occasional nudist ping pong clubs scattered across Los Angeles. By turns funny and heartbreaking, this sharp-witted comedy features ten interconnected vignettes that build to a revealing finish.
The movie has a pretty good cast as well which consists of Danny DeVito, Rosario Dawson, Josh Hartnett, Alexis Bledel, Emanuelle Chriqui, Michelle Ryan, Zachary Quinto and Carla Gugino to name a few. I highly recommend it and it’s free so what do you have to lose.
